Old Timers Dinner Programs
CELEBRATING 51 YEARS OF GIVING
- The Old Timers association was founded by Joe and Jim Branca to:
- Encourage youth activities in sports
- Unite and continue the good fellowship which originated in the field of sports and athletic activities in years gone by
- Further sports and good sportsmanship
- Honor worthy old time athletes and those who were associated with sports
- A new award has been established: The Coach’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented at an inaugural luncheon in March. This recognition of a Greenwich coach will be awarded each year to an individual whose achievements are not measured by wins or losses, but by his or her longtime contributions and commitment to the development of the community’s youth. In conjunction with the award, the Old Timers make a $1,000 donation to the charity in the recipient’s name. The inaugural award was presented to John Kavanagh.
- In partnership with Greenwich Time, the Old Timers are recognizing “50 People Who Made a Difference.” Once a month through November, five of these individuals are profiled on a full page in Greenwich Time, recognizing their significant contributions.
- There will be a special Anniversary Raffle to help ensure that the Old Timers distribute more money back to your sports in the community than ever before. With tickers to the Super Bowl, Masters golf tournament and the Major League Baseball All-Star Game as the prizes, tickets, with a special price of $20 each or three for $50, will be sold throughout the year. The drawing will take place at the annual Awards Dinner in November.
- A reunion clambake to celebrate and thank those who have made the Old Timers such a success for a half-century is being planned for August 28 at Greenwich Point in Old Greenwich.
- The annual Branca Brothers Golf Tournament, one of the organization’s major fund-raising events, features some special golden anniversary mementos and a $50,000 hole-in-one opportunity. The tournament will be held June 14 at the town’s Griffith E. Harris Memorial Golf Course.
- The 50th renewal of the Annual Awards Dinner, the organization’s major annual fund-raiser, will be a gala event with the dinner and its accompanying program book celebrating 50 years of memories, grand fellowship and giving back to the youth of Greenwich. What promises to be a special evening will take place on Friday, November 11.
